[01] — Look up TEN FIFTEEN of your favorite movies on IMDB.
[02] — Click the "trivia" link in the sidebar.
[03] — Post a fun and random bit of trivia from each film.

This list is by no means comprehensive, and there's also a considerable amount of *squee* movies in there to balance out De Niro and Pacino's entire filmography the serious stuff.

HEAT: In the director commentary, Michael Mann noted that Al Pacino ad-libbed the line "Because she's got a... GREAT ASS!" and Hank Azaria's look of exasperated shock was totally genuine. // Today you can still sit in the table at the Kate Mantilini restaurant in Beverly Hills where DeNiro and Pacino sat, and the two are both regulars at the popular restaurant.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: Jodie Foster claims that during the first meeting between Lecter and Starling, Anthony Hopkins's mocking of her southern accent was not rehearsed and that Hopkins improvised it on the spot. Foster's reaction of horror was totally genuine, as she felt personally attacked, though she later thanked Hopkins for generating such an honest reaction.

TAXI DRIVER: Robert De Niro worked twelve hour days for a month driving cabs as preparation for this role. // Paul Schrader wrote the script for "Taxi Driver" in five days. As he was writing, he kept a loaded gun on his desk for motivation and inspiration.

SCENT OF A WOMAN: In an oft cited reference to Pacino's Method acting, after filming had concluded, Pacino sent Chris O'Donnell a letter congratulating him and saying that 'Although he didn't see him, he was sure he gave a great performance'. :) (I'm paraphrasing that one from memory).

RAGING BULL: In 1978, when Martin Scorsese was at an all-time low due to a near overdose resulting from an addiction to cocaine (although i've actually read he was in hospital for asthma/pneumonia), Robert De Niro visited him at the hospital and told him that he had to clean himself up and make this movie about a boxer. At first, Scorsese refused, but due to De Niro's persistence, he eventually gave in. Scorsese claims that De Niro saved his life by getting him back into work. ♥ // During one of the fight scenes, Marty allegedly pointed to one of the hundreds of extras in the very back row of the crowd and said "He's wearing a watch that isnt 'period'. Get it off." :P

MAGNOLIA: When Paul Thomas Anderson approached George C. Scott about playing the role of Earl Partridge, Scott threw the script across the room, saying "This is the worst fucking thing I've ever read. The language is terrible."

HURLYBURLY: In the original stage production, William Hurt played Sean Penn's character, and Christopher Walken played Kevin Spacey's.

LEON (THE PROFESSIONAL): During the filming involving all of the police cars on the street, a man ran from a store he had just robbed. When he encountered the movie set by accident, he saw all of the "police" and gave himself up to a bunch of uniformed extras :D

GOOD WILL HUNTING: The scene where Sean and Will are in his office, and Sean starts talking about his dead wife and her farting antics. These lines were ad-libbed by Robin Williams, which is probably why Matt Damon is laughing so hard. If you watch the scene carefully you can notice the camera shaking, probably due to the cameraman laughing as well.

ADAPTATION: Nicolas Cage has said that during the filming of this movie, he ignored all of his acting instincts and played the part exactly as director Spike Jonze asked him to. He then received an Academy Award nomination for it :P

GLADIATOR: When presented with the script for the famous lines "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius... Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.", Russell Crowe apparently at first refused to do the scene, claiming it was some of the worst writing he had ever seen :P

ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST: Louise Fletcher was so jealous over the fact that all actors could laugh and be happy, as opposed to her having to be so cold and heartless, during the end of production, she removed her dress and stood in only her panties to prove to the actors she was not "a cold-hearted monster".

ANALYZE THIS: Robert De Niro asked Billy Crystal to repeatedly refer to him by his real name (Bob) instead of his character's name (Paul) during the scene at the end where he breaks down and apologizes to his father who has passed away.

ARMAGEDDON: This was the first movie that the cast was allowed to use genuine NASA spacesuits. The cast are the only civilians to ever wear NASA spacesuits, which cost over $3 million each. // Regarding the film's premise, Ben Affleck asked director Michael Bay, "Wouldn't it be easier for NASA to train astronauts how to drill rather than training drillers to be astronauts?" Bay told Affleck to shut up.

LOOKING FOR RICHARD: While making this documentary, Al Pacino had amassed some 80-plus hours of footage and it took six editors to cut it down to the film's theatrical length. // At one point, Pacino was working on 'Heat' at the same time, and director Michael Mann 'loaned' him the Heat crew for a weekend to shoot footage for the climactic Richard III outdoors fight sequence.

Disclaimer: I've added trivia not from IMDB to some of these (mainly DeNiro/Pacino/Scorsese stuff). But everything comes from having obsessivly read biographies and interviews etc over the years :D
